How we got started
Bethel Children’s Ministry was born out of a request made by a mother who was sleeping on a sidewalk in Madras, India, after her house was washed away by a big flood. She had lost all her belongings and was tired and hungry. But she didn’t request food or money or the replacement of her cooking utensils. She instead asked if we could help her children get an education. It was 4:30am. You can see this mother’s request in the video at www.if2f.org.
A Partnership
One of our workers in India, Israel Prasad, at the time little known to us, felt a similar desire to help. He developed a plan that would assist in two of the most challenging needs that poor parents in India face. Education and malnutrition. His plan is to offer free education and a free meal six nights a week to any child who would attend.
Growth
The response in the villages has been amazing. We started with 65 children in the first school in (only 13 of which could read and write) and has grown to over 120. They’ve begun turning children away because the rented house is too small to accomodate them all. We have also started two more schools, the Gypsy School, and the Slum School.
Future
We sense a huge burden for the children and their parents that are caught in the grinding cycle of poverty and illiteracy. We feel a deep desire to “Feed a Thousand” children in the next year.
Please join us in praying for this to happen.
